Brussels is on the rise, with foreign companies as well. To further help convince international investors to opt for Brussels, hub.brussels Invest&Export has initiated the launch of a brand new “Make more with less” campaign. Head of Department Emmanuel de Beughem explains.
How does Brussels compare to other highly attractive locations for foreign investment?
We are a small player compared to big cities like Frankfurt, London or Paris. Hence the name of this campaign: ‘Make more with less’. A tantalizing slogan that refers to our unique position and the specific character of Brussels that’s like no other. At the same time, it is a nice paradox that refers to the economic transition we are so strongly committed to in the Brussels-Capital Region.”
What is the goal of this campaign?
“We would like to create additional jobs and added value in Brussels, through foreign companies that want to invest here. This seems to be working out nicely: every year, our capital attracts some 60 new companies – 20 to 25 of which flow through via Invest&Export.”
How do you assist newcomers from abroad?
“Entrepreneurs and investors do not come to us for subsidies, but for support services. They are looking for guidance and expertise, to find their way around the Brussels business world.”
What types of companies do you work with?
“That varies greatly. From start-ups and scale-ups to larger companies. One example is Ludus Academy, located on the Tour & Taxis site. The company is from France and offers training for video game developers. Another example is IngeData, which works on solutions around artificial intelligence in the lifetech sector. Or Xiaomi, a major Chinese player in smartphones and telecom.”
